Blu-ray Technology

New technology is now making it possible for viewers to record and store high definition programming onto DVDs. Blu-ray Disc is one method of recording HD content onto an optical disc. A blue-laser optical disc (MPEG-2 or MPEG-4) is used. Systems that use this technology will be able to play traditional DVDs, but the goal of Blu-ray is to create an image that’s as close to the HD format as possible. The name Blu-ray comes from the blue laser that decodes and copies information to each disk. Blu-ray technology may very well revolutionize the world of high definition programming. The Blu-ray disc format offers greater potential for storage, usually 25 gigabytes, which exceeds that of a standard DVD (15 gigabytes). One single-layer Blu-ray disk can hold about four hours of high definition content. A two-layer disk can contain eight hours of HD content. Four- and eight-layer disks are now in the works. These disks would have storage capabilities of 100 and 200 gigabytes. The Blu-ray recording system utilizes a shorter wavelength for recording information than traditional CDs and DVDs, and this is part of what allows it to hold more content on a single disk.

Blu-ray has also influenced the computer industry, specifically in terms of data storage capability. A number of major companies have come out in support of Blu-ray, including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, Pioneer, and Sony. Hewlett Packard plans to market desktop computers and laptops that utilize Blu-ray technology. Blu-ray used to be only available in Japan, but nowadays you can find it most anywhere, including video games and a DVD system that recreates a high definition effect on a viewer’s TV.

Many movie studios have used Blu-ray technology.  Back in 2005, Sony Pictures cornered the market on the first Blu-ray feature-length movie disk, which was none other than Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Studios that support the technology include Walt Disney and Twentieth Century Fox.

Competing with Blu-ray in the area of HD storage is HD DVD. HD DVD disks have less storage capability, but they’re cheaper to produce. Other big-name companies are showing their support for this option, including Microsoft, Intel and Toshiba, as well as Universal Studios. In what may be the smartest move, some companies are backing both types of technology, ensuring that their products support both Blu-ray and HD DVD. These companies include Samsung, Paramount and Warner Brothers.

Blu-ray is facing challenges from other competitors in the HD market: the Enhanced Versatile disk, the Digital Multilayer disk, and the Holographic Versatile disk are a few alternatives to Blu-ray. What is Bluetooth

If you have recently purchased a cellphone you may have been told whether or not your device was Bluetooth capable. Bluetooth technology enables a completely wireless headset that attaches onto the ear of the user. It allows the user to communicate hands free with no additional wires. Bluetooth technology prides itself on being very secure and having privacy as one of its main focuses. The device looks as though it is something out of the space age, like something out of Star Wars since it fits directly on the ear and is very small like most advanced technology.

Why Own a Bluetooth?

The most obvious reason to own a Bluetooth is for the ability to talk hands free while moving around or driving. Many states and provinces are beginning to implement traffic laws that forbid the usage of cellphones without a hands free device. Bluetooth technology will become all important for people that are on the go that need to reach the home or office while driving. Not to mention, they are very convenient while shopping at the supermarket and one forgets what they were supposed to purchase. It allows the user to call home to find out what needed to be purchased.

About Bluetooth Technology

Bluetooth comes equipped with a 2.45 GHz which is a tranceiver that sends and receives in an unused frequency. It is able to be accessed around the world. Also, each Bluetooth has its own 48 bit address. The connections are in the format of point to point or multi-point in nature. The furthest range allowed is ten meters at this time, so it is a short range wireless device. Data travels at a speed of one megabit a second.

How Bluetooth Can be Used

Bluetooth is by far from just being used as a hands free device for a cellphone, in addition, Bluetooth can allow for the exchange of information between multiple devices such as: digital cameras, GPS receivers, laptops, mobile phones, PC’s, printers, and video game consoles. The communication passes through a secure, short-range radio frequency. It is licensed on a global level.

With the increasing popularity of the iPod, it only stands to reason that the accessories market is growing right along with it. Often referred to as the iPod ecosystem, the large number of available iPod accessories are designed to work directly with the iPod and are manufactured by a variety of different companies. Well known industry music leaders Bose and Kennsington are among the companies to create iPod speakers, which use the iPod’s third pin dock connector. Various other companies create add-ons that permit the iPod to record sound, recharge, experience playback music on the radio and create wireless capability for the iPod to be operated with the use of a remote control.

In addition to technological iPod accessories, there are also a number of protective carrying cases designed to tote the iPod safely. While maintaining their equipment’s safety, iPod users are also making a fashion statement with their trendy carrying cases.

Industry experts are amazed at just how far iPod accessories have come. For instance, an iPod control is available on selected jacket sleeves or backpack straps made available by an apparel company specializing in the snowboarding industry. The theory behind this placement is that it will allow individuals with additional convenience for operating their iPod outdoors and on the go. Now that’s iPod accessories at their best.

Fiber cables form one of the most important parts of the networking industry today. Fiber cables are composed of one or more transparent optical fibers enclosed in a protective covering and strength members. Fiber cables are used to transmit data by the mode of light. The various types of fiber cables available are: multi-mode duplex fiber cables, single mode simplex fiber cables, single mode duplex fiber cables, and plastic optical fiber cables.

There are many fiber optic cable manufacturers who manufacture a full line of fiber cables in both single mode and multi-mode, simples, duplex and multi-strand. Several manufacturers provide low cost, quick-turn, high volume fiber cables and fiber cable assembly solutions.

Fiber cables are required to protect fibers from external hazards. Thus before installing the fiber cables one should always assess the place of installation of the fiber cables. Fiber cables required inside a house or a building are not exposed very much too hazardous conditions thus a simpler form and not-so-tough fiber cable can be used for installation. However, if the fiber cables are to be installed for longer distances and outside of the premises then the cables should be robust. They should also be installed well beneath the ground to protect them, not only from ground digging and, water logging,  but depending on the location possibly even from prairie dogs or other types of rodents.

Fiber cables comes in different types based on their usage patterns as well. The zip cord and simplex fiber cables refer to those used for desktop connections. Simplex fiber cables are one fiber, tight-buffered and jacketed. A zip cord is actually two simplex fiber cables joined by a thin web. On the other hand, fiber cables made of several simplex cables are called breakout fiber cables. This type of fiber cables is strong, rugged and larger. They are also a bit expensive but prove to be economic where distances are not too long and the fiber count required is less.

Small fiber cables required for dry conduit run, riser or plenum, are known as distribution fiber cables and they need a breakout box to be broken up or else they require a panel box. They contain several tight-buffered fibers bundled under same jacket.

Aerial fiber cables are good enough for outside installation where as armored fiber cables are used for underground wiring where rodents are a problem. These fiber cables have metal armoring between two jackets to prevent rodents from tampering with the cabling connections.

Loose tube fiber cables are perfect for plant trunk applications to prevent fibers from damage due to moisture or water. They can be buried directly in ground but must be handled carefully to prevent damage. Ribbon fiber cables have twelve or more fiber cables packed together and are laid in a rows. They are also plant fiber cables which are gel-filled and are good for water blocking.

All fiber cable manufacturers manufacture different fiber cables but their product literature should be carefully studied so as to assess which type of fiber cables they actually specialize in.

Cables with complete assembly of fibers, strength members and jackets are referred to as fiber cables. These fiber cables come in a variety of forms depending upon their usability and their place of use. It is important to identify the exact requirement of fiber cables and whether they would be easy to install, splice or terminate, etc. This is necessary as it ultimately decides the cost of installing the fiber cables.
